Property Taxes: I believe that our local government is costing us way too much. We can reduce our taxes AND improve our efficiency. When a government is wasteful the solution is not to raise taxes. It is to reduce taxes and cut the fat.
Lower Utility Costs: Here in Washington and Beaufort County our utility costs are far higher than the state averages. Yet our electrical system is antiquated and decrepit. Power blinks out with the slightest winds. We are paying extra for a poorer system. I want to make sure that we have a ten year plan in place to overhaul and update the system. This will reduce our utility costs while increasing our efficiency.
Pay attention to ALL neighborhoods: There are many neighborhoods in our wonderful community. Several need attention. Like many children, they don't all need the same thing, but they all need something. I want to make sure a plan is in place to address the needs and wants of each separate community.
Lower Crime: Crime is always in direct proportion with poverty. We can lower crime by alleviating poverty. We can do this by being a more inviting place for businesses. When high-paying jobs move to town, the rising tide will lift all boats. Crime will drop as poverty evaporates.
Increase Property Values: By utilizing existing grant opportunities, we can have a flood of money to help update and fix so many of the beautiful but antiquated homes and buildings in town. Modernizing the community will directly impact the value of all property.
Be the voice and will of the people: I hope to speak with every single member of the Washington community. The city council can address all concerns, but only if we take the time to hear them. I want every voice heard and every concern addressed.
